The number of sheeps in Turkey in 1990 was slightly over 40 million. Since 1990 this number started to decline and in 2011 it was below 20 million.
For a healthy alimentation it is important to eat sufficient amounts of meat. The importance of meat in a diet, and red meat’s importance especially is crucial for people and even more vital for the children.
Turkey has to be in a competitive level in meat production to compete in the European and Middle Eastern markets, and that is only possible with sheep breeding. But first of all we need to plan our domesti production and supply meat in domestic market for a reasonable price.
